INDIAN DOCTOR AWARDED
ROYAL COLLEGE OF PSYCHIATRISTS '(UK) PRESIDENT' MEDAL Chennai, 5th January 2011:
Dr. Ennapadam S Krishnamoorthy eminent Chennai-based Neurologist and Neuropsychiatrist, has been awarded a Royal College of Psychiatrists President’s Medal for the year 2011, for his significant contributions to policy, public knowledge and education in the sphere of metal health and wellness.
It is noteworthy that Dr. E S Krishnamoorthy already holds the distinction of being the youngest Indian doctor to be directly elected Triple FRCP (the Fellowship of all three Royal Colleges of Physicians … London, Glasgow and Edinburgh). With this new Medal, Dr. E S Krishnamoorthy becomes the first Indian to be recognized by the Royal Colleges (UK) for contributions to both Neurology and Psychiatry and joins an elite group of practitioners worldwide who are similarly distinguished.
In his letter, the President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Professor Dinesh Bhugra, notes that the awardees are recognized by the Royal College "for their contribution in diverse fields relevant to mental health, truly stunning and inspiring to the profession”.
In accepting this honor, Dr. E S Krishnamoorthy has said he views the Medal as a coveted recognition for the work being done at the Voluntary Health Services, whose mission is to ensure “prevention and cure of serious illnesses and the fostering of the family as a unit for medical care and community health”.
Dr. E S Krishnamoorthy is an Asian pioneer of the emerging field of Neuropsychiatry and has developed unique models of multidisciplinary patient assessment and management that have been published in the international scientific literature; models that were developed and are being actively practiced by his team in Chennai, India. He has organized over 90 conferences, symposia and workshops in the fields of neurology and neuropsychiatry across continents and delivered a number of lectures at prestigious venues around the globe. A prolific writer, he makes accessible to lay audiences technical information at the cutting edge of the brain and mind interface.
Dr. E S Krishnamoorthy's other decorations include the Mother Theresa Award by Loyola College (Autonomous) in the year 2005 for excellence in Neuropsychiatric Social Work- training and placement; and the H C Bajoria Oration Award in the year 2008 by Indian Epilepsy Association for social contributions to epilepsy and disability.
Dr. E S Krishnamoorthy is presently the Honorary Secretary (Chief Executive) of The Voluntary Health Services- Multi-specialty Hospital and Research Institute a nationally recognized leadership role in community health, and directs the neurological sciences, geriatric services and rehabilitation projects of that institution. He is also Chairman of TEJAS Healthcare Solutions, a company actively engaged in establishing a chain of integrative healthcare- medical wellness and rehabilitation centers that combine the rigor of modern medicine with the rich traditions of Indian medical systems, yet another pioneering effort.
